The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 They do not expect any reward 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
