The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And the day resplendent 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
