The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And the day resplendent 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
