The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
