The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
