The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and the day in splendour 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and he belied the finest 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
