The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 He verily will be content. 21
