The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night as it envelops; 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
