In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
