The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
