The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
