The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 and enjoins piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 Beware! Do not obey him, but bow in adoration and draw near (to your Lord). ۩ 19
