The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
