The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
