The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
