The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 Yes indeed; do not listen to him – and prostrate, and become close to Us. (Command of Prostration # 14) ۩ 19
