The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.

Notes and Instructions
قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
