The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
