The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
