The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will now call the guards! 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
