The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
