The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
