The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
God the Almighty always says the truth.
