The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
