In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
