The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
