The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
