O Children of Israel, remember My favor that I have bestowed upon you and that I preferred you over the worlds. 47 Then guard yourselves against a day when one soul shall not avail another nor shall intercession be accepted for her, nor shall compensation be taken from her, nor shall anyone be helped (from outside). 48 And when We delivered you from the folk of Pharaoh who were visiting you with evil chastisement, slaughtering your sons, and sparing your women; and in that was a grievous trial from your Lord. 49 And when We brought you through the sea and rescued you, and drowned the folk of Pharaoh in your sight. 50 And remember We appointed forty nights for Moses, and in his absence ye took the calf (for worship), and ye did grievous wrong. 51 Even so, We pardoned you that you may be grateful. 52 Remember when We gave Moses the Scripture, and the criterion [to distinguish between right and wrong], so that you might be guided. 53 Moses said to his people, "My people, you have done wrong to yourselves by worshipping the calf. Seek pardon from your Lord and slay yourselves." He told them that it would be best for them in the sight of their Lord, Who would forgive them, for He is All-forgiving and All-merciful. 54 And [recall] when you said, "O Moses, we will never believe you until we see Allah outright"; so the thunderbolt took you while you were looking on. 55 Then We brought you back to life after your death, so that you might be grateful. 56 And We shaded you with clouds and sent down on you Al-Manna and the quails, (saying): "Eat of the good lawful things We have provided for you," (but they rebelled). And they did not wrong Us but they wronged themselves. 57 Remember when We said, "Enter this land and eat freely wherever you will. Make your way through the gates, bowing down and saying, "God! Forgive us our sins." We shall forgive you your sins and We shall give abundance to those who do good." 58 But those who did wrong changed the word which had been told them for another saying, and We sent down upon the evil-doers wrath from heaven for their evil-doing. 59
