And when you slew a soul and then fell out with one another concerning it, Allah made known what you concealed. 72 We said: "Apply this [principle] to some of those [cases of unresolved murder]: in this way God saves lives from death and shows you His will, so that you might [learn to] use your reason." 73 Thenceforth were your hearts hardened: They became like a rock and even worse in hardness. For among rocks there are some from which rivers gush forth; others there are which when split asunder send forth water; and others which sink for fear of Allah. And Allah is not unmindful of what ye do. 74 ۞ Do you, the believers in truth, desire the unbelievers to believe you? There was a group among them who would hear the word of God and understand it. Then they would purposely misinterpret it. 75 And when they meet those who believe they say: We believe, and when they are alone one with another they say: Do you talk to them of what Allah has disclosed to you that they may contend with you by this before your Lord? Do you not then understand? 76 Do they not know that Allah has knowledge of all they hide and all that they reveal! 77 And there are among them (Jews) unlettered people, who know not the Book, but they trust upon false desires and they but guess. 78 Woe to those who write the scripture with their own hands, and then declare, "This is from God," in order to sell it for a paltry price. Woe to them because of what their own hands have written, and woe to them for what they have earned. 79 And they say: Fire shall not touch us but for a few days. Say: Have you received a promise from Allah, then Allah will not fail to perform His promise, or do you speak against Allah what you do not know? 80 Whoever earns evil and becomes engrossed in sin shall be doomed to Hell and abide therein for ever. 81 But those who believe and do good works are the people of Paradise; for ever they shall live in it. 82
