Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 He intends to turn you out of your land. What counsel do you then give? 110 They said (unto Pharaoh): Put him off (a while) - him and his brother - and send into the cities summoners, 111 to bring together at the Pharaohs court all the skillful magicians. 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said, "We must have our reward if we are to gain a victory over him (Moses)". 113 He said, 'Yes, indeed; and you shall be among the near-stationed.' 114 They said, "Moses, will you first throw, or shall we?" 115 He replied, "Throw yours first." Their great magic bewitched people's eyes and terrified them. 116 And we revealed unto Musa: cast down thy rod. And lo! it was swallowing up that which they had feigned. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 So the (great ones) were vanquished there and then, and were made to look small. 119 And the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. 120 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,- 121 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 122 Said Pharaoh: "Have you come to believe in him ere I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have cunningly devised in this [my] city in order to drive out its people hence! But in time you shall come to know, [my revenge]: 123 Surely I shall have your hands and feet cut off upon alternate sides. Then I shall crucify you every one. 124 They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
