Said the Council of the people of Pharaoh, 'Surely this man is a cunning sorcerer 109 "He wishes to drive you away from the land. So what do you advise?" 110 They said, 'Put him and his brother off a while, and send among the cities musterers, 111 who shall bring before thee every sorcerer of great knowledge." 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and said: 'Shall we have a reward if we win?' 113 "Yes," said he, "you will be among the honoured." 114 They said: "O Moses! wilt thou throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He said, “You throw”; when they threw, they cast a magic spell upon the people’s eyes and terrified them, and they brought a great magic. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ So the truth was proved and their works were disproved. 118 So the (great ones) were vanquished there and then, and were made to look small. 119 And the magicians were obliged to fall prostrate. 120 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! 123 Surely I shall have your hands and feet cut off upon alternate sides. Then I shall crucify you every one. 124 They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: 125 And you do not take revenge on us except because we have believed in the communications of our Lord when they came to us! Our Lord: Pour out upon us patience and cause us to die in submission. 126
