Think not God is oblivious of the deeds of the wicked. He has only allowed them respite till the Day on which all eyes would stare aghast, 42 (And) they would hasten forward, heads lifted upwards, gazes fixed, and emptied out their hearts. 43 And warn people of the day when the chastisement shall come to them, then those who were unjust will say: O our Lord! respite us to a near term, (so) we shall respond to Thy call and follow the apostles. What! did you not swear before (that) there will be no passing away for you! 44 And (have ye not) dwelt in the dwellings of those who wronged themselves (of old) and (hath it not) become plain to you how We dealt with them and made examples for you? 45 Still they are plotting their plots, but evident are their plots to God, even though they are so adroit as to make the mountains move. 46 Never think that God will fail in His promise to His messengers. God is mighty and capable of retribution. 47 [His promise will be fulfilled] on the Day when the earth shall be changed into another earth, as shall be the heavens and when [all men] shall appear before God, the One who holds absolute sway over all that exists. 48 Thou wilt see the guilty on that day linked together in chains, 49 Their garments of liquid pitch, and their faces covered with Fire; 50 That Allah may repay each soul what it hath earned. Lo! Allah is swift at reckoning. 51 This is the message to be conveyed to all mankind – and in order to warn them with it, and for them to know that He is the only One God, and for men of understanding to heed advice. 52
