The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ A. L. R. These are the Ayats of Revelation,- of a Qur'an that makes things clear. 1 Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah's will) in Islam. 2 Let them eat and enjoy; and let their hopes deceive them, soon they shall know. 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 No people can outstrip the term for its destruction nor can it delay it. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 We send not down the angels save with the Fact, and in that case (the disbelievers) would not be tolerated. 8 Behold, it is We Ourselves who have bestowed from on high, step by step, this reminder; and behold, it is We who shall truly guard it [from all corruption]. 9 And assuredly We have sent apostles before thee among the sects of the ancients. 10 but there was never a messenger who came to them but they mocked him: 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 They believe not therein, and already the example of the ancients hath gone forth. 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
