The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ AlifLaamRa. Those are the verses of the Book, the Clear Koran. 1 How strongly the unbelievers will wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them thou to eat and to enjoy, and let vain hope divert them; presently they will know. 3 Not one habitation have We destroyed but at the time determined for it. 4 No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter. 5 And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: 6 Why do you not bring down the angels, if what you say is true' 7 We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved. 8 Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Quran) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption). 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 This is how We make the mocking* enter the hearts of the guilty. (* The acts of disbelief.) 12 They do not believe in the Truth and they exactly follow the tradition of the ancient (unbelievers) 13 And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
