The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ A. L. R. These are the Ayats of Revelation,- of a Qur'an that makes things clear. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them to feast and revel, beguiled by hope; they will come to know soon. 3 And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree. 4 [but remember that] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [it]. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 We send not down the angels, save with truth; 8 We have sent down this Exposition, and We will guard it. 9 We sent Messengers to the ancient people who lived before you. 10 But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him. 11 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty: 12 They believe not therein, though the example of the men of old hath gone before. 13 And even if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they were to continue ascending thereto, 14 they would still say, "Our eyes have been dazzled. We are bewitched." 15
