We created man from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape; 26 As We fashioned jinns before from intense radiated heat. 27 And recall when your Lord said to the angels, “I will create man from sounding clay made out of black smelly mud.” 28 "So, when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him, then fall (you) down prostrating yourselves unto him." 29 The angels bowed in homage in a body 30 except iblis (father of the jinn) who refused to be one of those who prostrated themselves. 31 Allah said: O Iblis! what aileth thou that thou art not with the prostrates? 32 He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered! 33 (Allah) said: 'Begone, you are accursed! 34 "And the curse shall be on thee till the day of Judgment." 35 Said he, 'My Lord, respite me till the day they shall be raised.' 36 "You are among the reprieved," (said the Lord), 37 Until the Day of the time well-known." 38 He said: My Lord! Because Thou hast sent me astray, I verily shall adorn the path of error for them in the earth, and shall mislead them every one, 39 “Except those among them who are Your chosen bondmen.” 40 Said He: "This is, with Me, a straight way: 41 and you have no authority over My servants except the erring ones who follow you. 42 and for all such, behold, hell is the promised goal. 43 Which has several gates, and each gate is marked for every section of them." 44
