The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Praise be to God. He has sent the Book to His servant and has made it a flawless guide (for human beings) 1 and which rightly directs, to give warning of stern punishment from Him, and to proclaim to the believers who do righteous deeds that they shall have an excellent recompense, 2 and they will live for ever therein. 3 and to warn those who say, 'God has taken to Himself a son'; 4 a thing about which they have no knowledge, neither they nor their ancestors. Dreadful is the word that comes out of their mouths. What they utter is merely a lie. 5 Perhaps you may destroy yourself with grief if they do not believe in this message. 6 Lo! We have placed all that is on the earth as an ornament thereof that We may try them: which of them is best in conduct. 7 In the ultimate, We shall reduce all that is on the earth to a barren plain. 8 Do you not think that the story of the Companions of the Cave and the Inscription was one of Our marvelous miracles? 9 Recall what time the youths betook themselves to the cave, then said: our Lord! vouchsafe unto us mercy from before Thee, and prepare for us in our affair a right course. 10 Wherefore We put a covering over their ears in the cave for a number of years. 11 and then roused them so that We might see which of the two parties could best tell the length of their stay. 12
