۞ Give them the parable of two men. To one we gave two gardens of vines and surrounded them with palm trees and in between the two we placed a sown field. 32 Each of the gardens yielded its fruit and did not withhold the least; and We made a stream flow in between them. 33 and so he had fruit in abundance. While conversing with his companion, he said, "I am wealthier than you are, and have a bigger following!" 34 He unjustly entered his garden and said, "I do not think this (property) will ever perish 35 I think not that the Hour will ever come, and if indeed I am brought back unto my Lord I surely shall find better than this as a resort. 36 Said his fellow, as he was conversing with him, 'What, disbelievest thou in Him who created thee of dust, then of a sperm-drop, then shaped thee as a man? 37 But as for myself, [I know that] He is God, my Sustainer; and I cannot attribute divine powers to any but my Sustainer." 38 And why did you, when you entered your garden, not say, 'What Allah willed [has occurred]; there is no power except in Allah '? Although you see me less than you in wealth and children, 39 maybe my Lord will give me a garden better than yours, and send down a thunderbolt from heaven, so that in the morning it will be a slope of dust, 40 or, in the morning its water will be drained into the earth so that you will not have a means to reach it' 41 And [thus it happened:] his fruitful gardens were encompassed [by ruin,] and there he was, wringing his hands over all that he had spent on that which now lay waste, with its trellises caved in; and he could but say: "Oh, would that I had not attributed divine powers to any but my Sustainer!" 42 He had no party to help him against God, nor was he able to defend himself. 43 The jurisdiction in this province belongs to God. His is the best reward, and His the best requital. 44
