Al-Kahf 11 of 12
They will question thee concerning Dhool Karnain. Say: 'I will recite to you a mention of him. 83 Lo! We made him strong in the land and gave him unto every thing a road. 84 and he followed a way 85 Till, when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and found a people thereabout. We said: O Dhu'l-Qarneyn! Either punish or show them kindness. 86 He said, "As for one who wrongs, we will punish him. Then he will be returned to his Lord, and He will punish him with a terrible punishment. 87 But he who believes and does the right will have an excellent reward, and we shall make things easy for him." 88 Then he followed a road 89 Until, when he came to the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had provided no covering protection against the sun. 90 So, We encompassed in knowledge what was with him. 91 Then he followed a way 92 until he came between two mountains. He found beside them a people who could scarcely understand a word [of his language]. 93 They said: O Zulqarnain! surely Gog and Magog make mischief in the land. Shall we then pay you a tribute on condition that you should raise a barrier between us and them 94 He said, "That in which my Lord has established me is better [than what you offer], but assist me with strength; I will make between you and them a dam. 95 "Give me pieces (blocks) of iron," then, when he had filled up the gap between the two mountain-cliffs, he said: "Blow," till when he had made it (red as) fire, he said: "Bring me molten copper to pour over it." 96 So Gog and Magog were unable to pass over it, nor were they able [to effect] in it any penetration. 97 He said, 'This is a mercy from my Lord. But when the promise of my Lord comes to pass, He will make it into powder; and my Lord's promise is ever true.' 98 ۞ And We will leave them that day surging over each other, and [then] the Horn will be blown, and We will assemble them in [one] assembly. 99 On that Day We shall lay Hell bare before those who deny the truth, 100 They whose eyes were under a cover from My reminder and they could not even hear. 101

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
