And they ask you about Dhul-Qarnain. Say: "I shall recite to you something of his story." 83 Say: "I will cite before you his commemoration." We gave him authority in the land and means of accomplishing every end. 84 He set out (westwards) on an expedition, 85 Until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it [as if] setting in a spring of dark mud, and he found near it a people. Allah said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, either you punish [them] or else adopt among them [a way of] goodness." 86 He said: "We will chastise him who does wrong, whereafter he will be returned to his Lord and He will chastise him grievously. 87 But he who believes and does the right will have an excellent reward, and we shall make things easy for him." 88 Then he followed a road 89 Until, when he came to the rising place of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We (Allah) had provided no shelter against the sun. 90 So, We encompassed in knowledge what was with him. 91 Then he followed (another) way, 92 Until, when he came between two mountains, he found before them a nation that did not appear to understand any speech. 93 They said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, indeed Gog and Magog are [great] corrupters in the land. So may we assign for you an expenditure that you might make between us and them a barrier?" 94 He said, 'That wherein my Lord has established me is better; so aid me forcefully, and I will set up a rampart between you and between them. 95 Bring me blocks of iron to fill up the passage between the two mountains." He told them to ply their bellows until the iron became hot as fire. Then he told them to pour on it molten brass." 96 Thus were they made powerless to scale it or to dig through it. 97 He said: This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of my Lord cometh to pass, He will lay it low, for the promise of my Lord is true. 98 ۞ And We shall leave them on that day surging one against other and the trumpet shall be blown, and then We shall assemble them together. 99 Then We shall bring Hell right before the infidels 100 whose eyes were covered against My remembrance, and they were not able to hear. 101
