Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
KaafHaYa'aeenSaad. 1 This is the remembrance of the mercy of your Lord upon His bondman Zakaria. 2 when he cried to his Lord in secret. 3 He said: "Lord! My bones have grown feeble and my head is glistening with age; yet, never have my prayers to You, my Lord, been unfruitful. 4 "Now I fear (what) my relatives (and colleagues) (will do) after me: but my wife is barren: so give me an heir as from Thyself,- 5 who will be my heir and an heir to the House of Jacob, and make him, my Lord, satisfied' 6 [Thereupon the angels called out unto him: "O Zachariah! We bring thee the glad tiding of [the birth of] a son whose name shall be John. [And God says,] "Never have We given this name to anyone before him." 7 He said: O my Lord! when shall I have a son, and my wife is barren, and I myself have reached indeed the extreme degree of old age? 8 Allah said: even so! Thy Lord saith: it is unto Me easy, whereas surely I created thee afore when thou wast not aught. 9 Zachariah asked, " Lord, show me evidence (if this is a heavenly news)." The Lord said, "The evidence for it is that you must not speak (to any mortal) though you are in good health for three nights (and days)." 10 Then he came out from the Sanctuary to his nation, and gestured to them to exalt (their Lord) at the dawn and at the evening. 11 (We said:) "O John, hold fast to the Book;" and We gave him wisdom right from boyhood, 12 and We also endowed him with tenderness and purity, and he was exceedingly pious 13 and cherishing to his parents. Never was he insolent or rebellious. 14 So Peace on him the day he was born the day that he dies and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! 15
