Mary (Maryam)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
KaafHaYa'aeenSaad. 1 This is the remembrance of the mercy of your Lord upon His bondman Zakaria. 2 when he called upon his Lord secretly 3 He said: O my Lord! verily the bones of me have waxen feeble, and the head is glistening with hoariness, and have not yet been in my prayer to thee, my Lord, unblest. 4 Lo! I fear my kinsfolk after me, since my wife is barren. Oh, give me from Thy presence a successor 5 Inheriting me and inheriting the Children of Ya'qub; and make him, my Lord, acceptable! 6 (He was told): "Zechariah, We bring you the good news of the birth of a son whose name shall be Yahya (John), one whose namesake We never created before." 7 He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren and I have reached infirm old age? 8 He said: "So (it will be). Your Lord says; It is easy for Me. Certainly I have created you before, when you had been nothing!" 9 He said: my Lord appoint for me a sign. Allah said: thy sign is that thou shalt not speak unto mankind for three nights, while sound. 10 Then Zachariah came forth from the shrine to his people and told them by signs to glorify the Lord morning and evening. 11 [Allah] said, "O John, take the Scripture with determination." And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy 12 We gave him compassion and purity. He was a pious human being, 13 And kind to his parents, and he was not overbearing or rebellious. 14 Peace be on him on the day of his birth, and on the day of his death, and peace will be on him on the day he is raised up to life again. 15
