Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf- Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 A mention of the mercy of thy Lord unto His servant Zachariah. 2 when he cried to his Lord in secret. 3 He said: O my Lord! verily the bones of me have waxen feeble, and the head is glistening with hoariness, and have not yet been in my prayer to thee, my Lord, unblest. 4 I am afraid of what my kinsmen will do after (my death) and my wife is barren. Lord, grant me a son 5 to be my heir and to be the heir [of the blessings] of the House of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord, acceptable to you." 6 "O Zachariah," (it was) said, "We give you good news of a son by name of John.' To none have We attributed the name before." 7 He said, 'O my Lord, how shall I have a son, seeing my wife is barren, and I have attained to the declining of old age?' 8 He said: "So (it will be). Your Lord says; It is easy for Me. Certainly I have created you before, when you had been nothing!" 9 He said: my Lord appoint for me a sign. Allah said: thy sign is that thou shalt not speak unto mankind for three nights, while sound. 10 Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. 11 (And it was said unto his son): O John! Hold fast the Scripture. And we gave him wisdom when a child, 12 as well as, by Our grace, [the gift of] compassion and purity; and he was [always] conscious of Us 13 And dutiful toward his parents. And he was not arrogant, rebellious. 14 'Peace be upon him, the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised up alive!' 15
