Also We revealed unto Moses, 'Go with My servants by night; strike for them a dry path in the sea, fearing not overtaking, neither afraid.' 77 Pharaoh pursued them with his hosts, but they were fully overwhelmed by the sea. 78 For Pharaoh had led his people astray and did not guide them. 79 O children of Israel, We delivered you from your enemy, and made a covenant with you on the right side of the Mount, and sent down for you manna and quails, 80 (Saying): "Eat of the good things We have provided for your sustenance, but commit no excess therein, lest My Wrath should justly descend on you: and those on whom descends My Wrath do perish indeed! 81 But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance. 82 ۞ [AND GOD SAID:] "Now what has caused thee, O Moses, to leave thy people behind in so great a haste?" 83 He said, "They are close upon my tracks, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You be pleased." 84 He said: So surely We have tried your people after you, and the Samiri has led them astray. 85 Then Moses returned very angry and sorrowful to his people, saying, 'My people, did your Lord not promise a fair promise to you? Did the time of the covenant seem so long to you, or did you desire that anger should alight on you from your Lord, so that you failed in your tryst with me?' 86 They answered: "We did not break our promise with you out of our own volition; but we were laden with the load of people's ornaments, and we simply threw them down(into the fire), and the Samiri also threw down something, 87 and brought out of there (from the molten gold) the effigy of a calf that lowed." The people cried out: "This is your deity and the deity of Moses, whom Moses has forgotten." 88 What! Did they not see that it did not speak a word to them in return, and for them it could own neither harm nor benefit? 89
