When We said to the angels: ''Bow before Adam,'' they all bowed but Iblis, who refused. 116 So We said; "O Adam, he is truly your enemy and your wife's. Do not let him have you turned out of Paradise and come to grief. 117 It is (vouchsafed) unto thee that thou hungerest not therein nor art naked, 118 "Nor to suffer from thirst, nor from the sun's heat." 119 But Satan seduced him, saying: "Adam! Shall I direct you to a tree of eternal life and an abiding kingdom?" 120 And so the two ate [of the fruit] thereof: and thereupon they became conscious of their nakedness and began to cover themselves with pieced-together leaves from the garden. And [thus] did Adam disobey his Sustainer, and thus did he fall into grievous error. 121 Thereafter his Lord chose him, and turned again unto him, and He guided him. 122 saying: "Down with you all from this [state of innocence, and be henceforth] enemies unto one another! None the less, there shall most certainly come unto you guidance from Me: and he who follows My guidance will not go astray, and neither will he be unhappy. 123 but whosoever turns away from My remembrance, his shall be a life of narrowness, and on the Resurrection Day We shall raise him blind.' 124 He will say: "O my Lord! why hast Thou raised me up blind, while I had sight (before)?" 125 (Allah) will say: "Thus didst Thou, when Our Signs came unto thee, disregard them: so wilt thou, this day, be disregarded." 126 And thus do We recompense he who transgressed and did not believe in the signs of his Lord. And the punishment of the Hereafter is more severe and more enduring. 127 Do they not learn a lesson from Our destruction of many generations before them in whose dwelling-places they walk about? Surely in this are signs for men of understanding. 128
