۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 Said he: "Indeed, you and your forefathers have obviously gone astray!" 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He said, 'Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who originated them, and I am one of those that bear witness thereunto. 56 And, by Allah! I will certainly do something against your idols after you go away, turning back. 57 Then he made them fragments, all except the big one of them, that haply unto it they may return. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 Said some [of them]: "We heard a youth speak of these [gods with scorn]: he is called Abraham." 60 "Bring him before the people," they said, "that they may bear witness." 61 They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?" 62 "No," he said. "It was done by that chief of theirs. Ask him in case they can speak." 63 So they returned one to another saying, 'Surely, it is you who are the harmdoers' 64 Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak. 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They said: burn him, and succour your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We said: "O fire, become coolness and safety for Abraham." 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac, and Jacob as an additional gift, and made them righteous. 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 Thus We admitted him to Our grace. He is surely one of the righteous. 75
