۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people, “What are these idols before whom you squat (worshipping)?” 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, 'Then assuredly you and your fathers have been in manifest error.' 54 They said, 'What, hast thou come to us with the truth, or art thou one of those that play?' 55 He said, 'Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who originated them, and I am one of those that bear witness thereunto. 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 And then he broke those [idols] to pieces, [all] save the biggest of them, so that they might [be able to] turn to it. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 (On Abraham's arrival) they said: "Abraham, are you he who has done this to our gods?" 62 He said: "Nay, this was done by - this is their biggest one! ask them, if they can speak intelligently!" 63 And so they turned upon one another, saying, "Behold, it is you who are doing wrong." 64 then they hung their heads, and said, "O Abraham! You know they cannot speak." 65 He said: What! do you then serve besides Allah what brings you not any benefit at all, nor does it harm you? 66 “Disgrace be upon you and all the idols whom you worship instead of Allah; so do you not have sense?” 67 They cried: Burn him and stand by your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 [But] We said: O fire! Be thou cool, and [a source of] inner peace for Abraham!" 69 Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most! 70 and We saved him and Lot and brought him to the land upon which We had bestowed Our blessings for all the people of the world. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone). 73 And Lot -- to him We gave judgment and knowledge; and we delivered him from the city that had been doing deeds of corruption; they were an evil people, truly ungodly; 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Verily he was of the righteous. 75
