۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 Recall, when he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to which you are devoutly clinging?" 52 They replied: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 Abraham said, "Indeed, you and your fathers have been clearly misguided." 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He said: Aye! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth Who created them, and as to that I am of the witnesses. 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 'We have heard a young man called Abraham mention them' they replied. 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 He answered, "Rather this biggest one of them did it. Ask them, if they can speak." 63 So they turned to themselves and said, "Surely ye are the ones in the wrong!" 64 then they hung their heads, and said, "O Abraham! You know they cannot speak." 65 He said: Worship ye then instead of Allah that which cannot profit you at all, nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and those you worship besides God! Will you not understand?" 67 They said: "Burn him, and come to the support of your gods, if you are going to do anything." 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 And they desired a war on him, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 And We delivered him as well as Lut (removing them) to the land which We had blessed for all people. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them). 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
