۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, “Indeed you all – you and your forefathers – were in open error.” 54 They said: hast thou come unto us with the truth, or art thou of those who sport? 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" 59 Some of them said, "We heard a youth called Abraham speaking against the idols". 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 They said: Have you done this to our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers. 64 But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak' 65 He said: What! do you then serve besides Allah what brings you not any benefit at all, nor does it harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship instead of God! Will you not, then, use your reason?" 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 And We delivered him as well as Lut (removing them) to the land which We had blessed for all people. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 and made them leaders who would guide [others] in accordance with Our behest: for We inspired them [with a will] to do good works, and to be constant in prayer, and to dispense charity: and Us [alone] did they worship. 73 And We gave Lut the kingdom and knowledge, and We rescued him from the township that committed vile deeds; indeed those evil people were disobedient. 74 and We admitted him into Our mercy; he was of the righteous. 75
