The notables among his people who had refused to believe and who denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and those whom We had endowed with ease and comfort in this life, cried out: "This is no other than a mortal like yourselves who eats what you eat and drinks what you drink. 33 If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, you will certainly be losers. 34 What, does he promise you that when you are dead, and become dust and bones, you shall be brought forth? 35 ۞ Away, away with that you are promised! 36 "There is nothing but our life in this world! We shall die and we live! But we shall never be raised up again! 37 This man has forged a mere lie in the name of Allah and we shall never believe what he says." 38 He said: my Lord! vindicate for they belie me. 39 [And God] would say: "After a little while they will surely be smitten with remorse!" 40 So the punishment overtook them in justice, and We made them as rubbish; so away with the unjust people. 41 Then We produced after them other generations. 42 No nation can go before its term ends nor stay back. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Yet whenever its Messenger came to a nation they belied him, so We made them follow others, and We made them but as tales, so begone the nation who did not believe! 44 Then We sent Musa (Moses) and his brother Harun (Aaron), with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and manifest authority, 45 To Firon and his chiefs, but they behaved haughtily and they were an insolent people. 46 'What' they said, 'are we to believe in two mortals like us, whose nation are our worshipers' 47 So they denied them and were of those destroyed. 48 And We verily gave Moses the Scripture, that haply they might go aright. 49 And [as We exalted Moses, so, too,] We made the son of Mary and his mother a symbol [of Our grace,] and provided for both an abode in a lofty place of lasting restfulness and unsullied springs. 50
